The York University Student Centre (YUSC)
Tax Clinic was founded in 2001 by then Chairperson of the
York University Student Centre, Konata Lake. The Tax Clinic
provides a service to the York University student body for
what is normally a time consuming and costly activity for
them. This initiative is funded by the Student Centre and
York Federation of Students' Pepsi Fund.
The Tax Clinic normally attracts approximately
150 students who volunteer to file taxes, and approximately
800 students who have their taxes filed. These numbers have
steadily increased over the past 7 years. Students across
all faculties are encouraged to use the services as well as
to volunteer their time. Canada Revenue Agency Tax Specialists
provide training sessions for the volunteers on two different
days. Student volunteers are required to attend one of the
two days of training. As a result of their efforts, volunteers
receive a tax clinic certificate from Canada Revenue Agency.
